Mid Wales Stages Rally 2015 - SS4

After the excitement of the first stage, the weather deteriorated quite rapidly. We had been very fortunate with staying dry throughout the morning. This was quite rapidly altered by a howling wind, blizzards and rain. The break between stages allowed for a wait of around 90 minutes, which normally is a good time to take stock and have some lunch. Instead, we sought shelter in a power station, fashioning a bench out of some wooden pallets, gritting our teeth while the weather battered us.

As if by magic, the horizontal snow switched off, with mere minutes before the stage went live. The stage was run in reverse, offering a different perspective on the mornings action. While my intention was to explore a little more of the stage, the cold weather had dampened my motivation somewhat, so I shot some of the front runners on the moor tops, before retreating back into the forest. Overall, I think this was one of the most entertaining rallies I have been to in the UK. The stage really lends itself to showcasing rallying at its very best. It was hard work making the journey from North Yorkshire, but worth every minute, I have every intention of exploring the Welsh stages more over the coming months.
